Independent Sector Tracks Debt Reform Policies

(11-17-10) The draft discussion proposal released November 10, 2010 by the National Commission for Fiscal Responsibility and Reform co-chairs, Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, provides a number of options to reform our nation's budget and revenue system, identifying many of the tough choices ahead in efforts to restore fiscal stability. Bowles and Simpson emphasized that the draft proposal reflects only their views and is intended to generate substantive discussion among panel members.

Independent Sector is actively monitoring the work of the deficit commission and will release updates as they become available. Already posted is a summary of some of the draft’s key recommendations. You are encouraged to share your reactions with Independent Sector so that they may deepen their understanding of how the commission’s proposals could affect our community and the people we serve. Finding solutions to our nation’s fiscal issues will not be an easy or painless task, but it is vital that our voice has a prominent place in that process.
