Henry L. Berman Named CEO of Association of Small Foundations

(2-2-2011) Henry L. Berman has been selected to lead the Association of Small Foundations by the organizations Board of Directors. An ASF member since 2003, ASF board member from 2008–2010, and ASF acting CEO for the past seven months, Berman has served on ASF’s development, membership, and governance committees.

His experience also includes roles as a board member, volunteer, fundraiser, and/or marketer with several organizations. These include the American Society for Training and Development, the American Occupational Health Association, Beaver County Day School (MA), the Cottonwood Gulch Foundation (NM), and Community Servings, a Boston-based program providing meals to homebound individuals. Berman also helped launch, and served as a founding board member, of the Museum of Broadcast Technology. Berman’s early career in the communications field included positions as an independent communications consultant and director, writer, and producer of film, video, and multimedia programs for education, motivation, and fundraising.

Berman holds a bachelor of science in communications from Ithaca College, a master’s and doctorate in education from Boston University, and a certificate in business and management from Harvard University Extension School. He has taught various classes at Boston University, Harvard University Extension School, Emerson College, and Ithaca College, including fundraising, proposal writing, development communications, media design, and production.
