The Arts Education Partnership has shared the results of a successful effort to expand the use of Title I funds for arts education in more than 40 schools California. The initiative by the California Alliance for Arts Education has worked “to support schools and districts in embracing the arts among their strategies for achieving Title I goals and realizing the benefits of arts education for students evidenced in arts education research.”

Members of the President’s Committee are drawn from Broadway, Hollywood, and the broader arts and entertainment community and said in a letter to Trump that “Your words and actions push us all further away from the freedoms we are guaranteed.”

An article in The Denver Post cites data from a report by Fidelity Charitable pointing to the fact that “women of all ages and stages of life are more generous than their male counterparts”:

An article in EdSource discusses the challenges affecting arts education in California, using recent data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress:
Students in the western U.S., which covers 13 states including California, showed slight improvements in their overall arts and music scores since 2008, but lagged in arts enrollment, with arts attendance dropping from 35 percent in 2008 to 33 percent in 2016. By contrast, almost 70 percent of students in the northeast were enrolled in a music or art class.

For more than a decade, members of GIA have urged the Grantmakers for Education membership to better recognize the positive impact arts education classes and programs afford to good teaching, good learning, and an overall well-rounded education for students. Arts education advocates hoped to see more sessions at Grantmakers for Education conferences highlighting the value of arts education and more collaboration between arts education funders and education funders.
