Amplifying and Uplifting the Black Arts Community: More from our racial equity podcast series
In 21st century philanthropy we face the unfortunate truth that only 4% of cultural philanthropy goes to organizations of color. However, leaders in the field are redefining grantmaking and offering strategic ways to sustain and uplift ALAANA communities. Join us for two podcasts and hear from ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities’ Anthony Simmons, manager of Racial Equity in Grantmaking Program, and Edward Jones, vice president of Programs; and DéLana R.A. Dameron, chief strategist at Red Olive Consulting and founder of the Black Arts Futures Fund on how they are supporting Black communities and communities of color. Click here to listen!
Reclaiming Narratives: Arts Advocacy and Cultural Policy Webinar
“As 2020 ramps up, please advocate often and enthusiastically!” This is a call to action from GIA President & CEO, Eddie Torres’s latest blog. We are in a federal election year and it is important to clarify what is, and isn’t, within the boundaries of funders when discussing advocacy and lobbying. Join us on April 14 to hear from Abby Levine (Bolder Advocacy at Alliance for Justice) and Favianna Rodriguez (The Center of Cultural Power). They will offer a 101 on advocacy and lobbying practice for funders, and how funders and grantees can become more civically engaged to reclaim truth and proclaim justice. Details and registration here.
