Kellogg Foundation Report Makes “Business Case” for Racial Equity

Altarum Institute and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation have released a report detailing the economic impact of racism, and the benefits of advancing racial equity as the demography of our nation changes.

As businesses, policy makers and thought leaders attempt to track, analyze and ultimately manage the impact of the U.S. shift from a white majority to a minority majority, the availability of data on the progress and pain points within health, education and crime and justice will be even more important.

Addressing the social and economic factors that contribute to crime and eliminating inequities in treatment by the justice system are important strategies for improving opportunity for minorities, especially minority youth. In addition to the human cost, state governments spend nearly $57 billion on prisons and correctional system costs each year. Reducing the need for these services could save billions of dollars, and many related programs would also see large cost reductions.
