Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Names Gary Steuer as President

Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, of Denver, Colorado, has announced new leadership with the naming of its new President Gary Steuer effective October 2, 2013. Steuer’s predecessor, Dorothy Horrell, announced her retirement earlier this year after 13 years with the Foundation. Since 2008, Steuer has served as the Chief Cultural Officer and Director of the Office of Arts, Culture & the Creative Economy for the City of Philadelphia.

Steuer previously served as Vice President of Private-Sector Affairs and Executive Director, Arts & Business Council for Americans for the Arts in New York (2005-2008). Steuer also spent 12 years as President & CEO (1996-2005) and Director of New York Programs (1993-1996) for Arts and Business Council Inc., in New York. Prior to his role at the Arts and Business Council, Steuer spent significant time in the theatre and cultural industry holding Director positions at the National Actors Theatre, New York State Council on the Arts and Vineyard Theatre. Steuer earned both a Masters of Arts and Bachelors of Arts from New York University.

Following Horrell’s announcement, the Foundation’s Board conducted a national search for the best candidate to advance the Foundation and its current mission. The Foundation sought to find a champion of the arts to further promote cultural vitality in the Denver community and through Bonfils-Stanton’s current vision, engage local and national arts organizations and community members.
