New Minnesota Foundation Also the Largest

(4-20-10) "A Cargill heiress' massive fortune is about to change the face of Minnesota philanthropy," reports Jean Hopfensperger in the Star Tribune. Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies will be headquartered in Eden Prairie and will employ a staff of up to 75. The organization serves as an umbrella for three foundations: the Akaloa Resource Foundation, Cargill's vehicle for funding in California, where she settled as an adult; the Anne Ray Charitable Trust, named after Cargill's mother; and the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, which formed in 2007.

Cargill, who quietly donated over $200 million to the arts, the environment, and other causes, left a $2.1 billion bequest.
