Director of Development and Membership Position Open

Grantmakers in the Arts is seeking a Director of Development and Membership. A qualified applicant should have experience planning and implementing resource development strategies. Key actions include initiating and providing oversight of all policies and procedures related to fund-raising; identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects; providing oversight for all aspects of donor relations and stewardship; and developing communication strategies to support funder and membership retention, recruitment and benefits. Duties include supervision of development staff, managing grant strategy, grant proposal development, and grant evaluation. Work experience should include proficient knowledge of database management, grantwriting, final report execution, Word and Excel. Candidate’s familiarity with CiviCRM database product a plus. Position requires some travel.

Job Description: Director of Development and Membership

Responsible to the Executive Director for planning and implementing resource development strategies conductive to the growth and development of a national membership organization serving U.S. philanthropic institutions providing support for arts and culture. Specific responsibility for working with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop a resource development plan conducive to achieving both short-term and long-term financial goals consistent with the organization’s mission and strategic plan; initiating and providing oversight of all policies and procedures related to fund-raising; identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects; providing oversight for all aspects of donor relations and stewardship; and developing communication strategies to support funder and membership retention, recruitment and benefits. Duties include supervision of development staff, and managing grant strategy, grant proposal development, and grant evaluation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising:

  • Designs, implements and manages all fundraising activities
  • Strategizes and orchestrates methods of approach to institutional donors
  • Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Develops special recognition opportunities with the intent to retain or upgrade donors

Membership:

  • Develops, implements, and manages member recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Provides oversight of member eligibility
  • Designs evaluation materials to monitor member satisfaction
  • Provides due diligence to insure that members receive the highest level of customer service

Grants Management:

  • Researches foundations and corporations to identify sources of restricted and unrestricted funding
  • Manages the development of grant proposals in accordance with funder guidelines
  • Monitors current grants to insure that anticipated outcomes are achieved
  • Provides timely reports and evaluations to funders in accordance with grant agreements

Board of Trustee Relations:

  • Works with the Resource Development Committee of the Board and the Executive Director to develop strategies for institutional advancement
  • Develops, implements and maintains reporting mechanisms to monitor contributed income, and provide analysis of status toward annual goals

Resource Development Infrastructure:

  • Creates office systems to support all Development and Membership projects and operations
  • Supervises donor and gift record-keeping and acknowledgement processes
  • Oversees the management of databases and all records, files, and gift processing
