GIA Adds Recommendations and Definition to its Racial Equity in Arts Philanthropy Work
Grantmakers in the Arts has released an expansion of its landmark Racial Equity in Arts Philanthropy Statement of Purpose with new definitions, recommendations, and resources to support arts funders in taking up and continuing this important work. Highlights of this release include sets of actionable steps that individuals and institutions can take to advance racial equity in arts philanthropy, recordings of GIA’s highly attended web conference series on racial equity in grantmaking, and the results of GIA’s internal racial equity audit.

GIA Conference: Opening Reception
Charanga Tropical
The Opening Reception at the 2016 GIA Conference will take place on Sunday evening in the beautiful Great River Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view of the Mississippi River. A highlight of the evening will be a live performance from Charanga Tropical, a Cuban dance music ensemble featuring the traditional charanga instrumentation of flute, three violins, vocalists, and a full Latin rhythm section.

September Web Conference: Bringing Artists Together
The next GIA web conference, Bringing Artists Together: Support through Convening, will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 2pm EDT / 11am PDT. Jonathon Glus from Houston Arts Alliance and Meg Leary from United States Artists will present examples of how artist convenings can be utilized to cultivate connections between artists and other professionals for the advancement of the artists’ careers.
