June/July Member Spotlight: Vilcek Foundation
Our most exciting development is our rapidly expanding grants program! In October of 2024, the Vilcek Foundation officially launched its first open call for grants to support organizations working with immigrant artists and communities, and that promote diversity in the arts, sciences, education, and humanities. The foundation will award $200,000 in grants to organizations across the United States.
Since the launch of this initiative, we have received interest from over 1,000 organizations, many of them focused on supporting immigrants in the arts. During a time of decreased funding for the arts, it has been great to connect with like-minded organizations to learn what is needed from us to continue their work. As a GIA member for over 10 years, we know the importance of listening to the needs of grantees. Looking ahead, the foundation is eager to continue to expand its network of grant recipients across the country.
One of our recent grantees, the Asia Art Archive in America is doing incredible work building collaboration, research, and scholarship opportunities focused on modern and contemporary art from Asia and the Asian diaspora. Earlier this year, the Vilcek Foundation awarded AAA in America $10,000 to support their programming, including their exhibition “mould the wing to match the photograph”: The Mrinalini Mukherjee Archive in Conversation with Sreshta Rit Premnath.”
We look forward to partnering with other nonprofits working in the arts. Interested organizations can submit their application through June 30th!
