As states gear up to implement the more rigorous Common Core State Standards (CCSS), recent studies have shown that a major challenge in implementation will be ensuring aligned instructional materials.
At a recent seminar of the Education Writers Association, Bill Schmidt—University Distinguished Professor and Co-Director at Michigan State’s Education Policy Center—called claims of Common Core alignment by textbook publishers “a sham,” after an examination of over 700 textbooks.
