This document, funded by the Ford Foundation as part of the Future of Public Media Project, is a code of best practices that helps creators, online providers, copyright holders, and others interested in the making of online video interpret the copyright doctrine of fair use. It is organized around a partial list of common situations that could arise for online video makers. These scenarios are drawn from the professional judgment and experience of documentary filmmakers whose own best practices are recognized throughout the industry.
