Brenda Way and Alonzo King have a longstanding commitment to building community throughout their stellar careers. Community to them has multiple meanings as they have worked tirelessly to create extended families within their companies and schools, support other dancers and choroegraphers, and anchor their work more deeply with audiences. In the thirty-three years since she helped found ODC, Way has made eighty-four dances with the company. King founded LINES ballet twenty-two years ago and has made 145 dances since then. It has not always been easy, but their companies are flourishing: this season ODC has forty-three weeks of work and LINES has thirty-eight. After decades of choreographing, they continue to create astoundingly beautiful new dances.
