2005 Conference Proceedings

Culture Jam
Pasadena, California

October 16–19, 2005

Culture Jam explored critical topics such as the current state of arts education, the relationship between public and private sector support for the arts, the role of the arts in workforce development, urban revitalization, and civic participation. Culture Jam played on LA's native characteristics: Traffic jams. Improvisation. Cross-sector and cross-cultural exchange. Overlapping terrain. Urbanization/suburbanization. Shifting demographics. The theme also relates to the sometimes uncomfortable, chaotic but often synergistic collision and melding of multiple elements, accents, values, industries, and perspectives within a vast, yet crowded, space.
